The importance of having Calcium in your system

Calcium or Ca is a chemical element found at number 20 in the periodic table of chemical elements. In order for Calcium to be absorbed by our bodies we need Vitamin D. It is very important for people who exercise on a daily basis or are part of a sports team to increase the amount of Ca intake because one of the ways in which this valuable element leaves our body is thorough our sweat. The lack of Calcium in our organisms can lead to fast and irreversible damage known as osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is an insidious disease because the symptoms start showing when it’s already too late. For example - you turn 50 years old and you break your hand, but it doesn’t heal because your bones lack Calcium, or it heals very slowly and painfully. Women are more affected by this disease because in the process of giving birth their bodies use up the stored Calcium in their bones as nutrients for the baby. So, no matter what your age or gender is, Calcium intake must be a part of your daily life – eat cheese, drink milk, take dietary supplements and don’t forget to consult your physician if you have any questions.
